There's been quite a lot of talk this year from right-wing commentators defiantly trying to claim back Christmas from the politically correct brigade - who themselves insist on referring to the holiday at the end of the year as 'The Holidays'. We've even found ourselves saying "have a good holiday" instead of "Merry Christmas" as the habit is so ingrained. There are so many people of different origins and religions in this country that it is fairly common to know people who don't actually celebrate Christmas - and of course you can never be sure if you might offend somebody.
And since the separation of Church and State is a principle of the constitution, it's a given that school end of year celebrations consist of snow, snowmen, winter themes, but nothing quite as obvious as a nativity, the birth of Jesus, or indeed Santa Claus. This year Thomas and his classmates celebrated 'The Holidays' with a very traditional pizza party.
