Since we've been over here, we've done pretty well at assimilating. We call a car park 'the parking lot', we put the emphasis on the second syllable of 'garage' with a soft g at the end - although I still can't understand why Americans miss out obvious letters in some words - My mantra is "there's an A in caramel, there's two I's in aluminium, and there's no W in Jaguar !"
We kind of settled into an acceptance of America where food is concerned. Linda prefers sweet snacks to savoury so she's happy with muffins and doughnuts (not donuts), and I can enjoy bacon that is extremely cripsy and consequently no good for a decent bacon sandwich. We domiss proper Fish and Chips, but we have reasonable supply lines open to the UK for teabags.
But this article made me feel really nostalgic and reminded me why fast food isn't really fast food in America, and why I long for pork pie, sausage roll and the ultimate bacon sarnie.
