I haven't got the urge to write, but we have been a bit busy recently, and have a few photos to show for it.
Fuzzy continues to make himself at home. He is fascinated by lots of things around the house, most of which he is not allowed to touch (the back of the furnace, the back of the washing machine, the back of the oven...notice a theme developing here ?). He's also fascinated by water, and we're having to learn to keep the toilet lids dwon in all the bathrooms. Here he is checking out what's involved when Linda has a bath, and whether it's inviting enough to get wet...
Thomas and I went to see Chelsea play AC Milan at Giants Stadium at the end of July. There's a bit of a tradition of the big European clubs playing pre-season warm-up games in the US. Last season we saw Man Utd play Juventus. Sometimes a crowd from work are keen to go, this time there was just four of us. Here, AC Milan take a free kick which let to a perfectly good goal being disallowed for offside. While the standard of the football is rapidly improving here, the standard of refereeing still has some way to go.
Factiva is currently running a great policy of 'Summer Hours'. This allows us all to work extra hours over a period of two weeks to store up credit - then we can take off either a half day every week, or a full day every two weeks. Most people have opted to take off every other Friday to make a long weekend. The first two I took were ruined by bad weather and illness, but last week we went off to the Jersey Shore to Belmar Beach. Belmar is a very upmarket resort, where beach houses are bought as second homes for the summer and can cost between $2-4m.
Thomas had a great time on the beach, boogie boarding, and building this marvellous sandcastle, decorated with crab shells, sand dollars and interesting pebbles. We later drove along this opulent bit of shore, found a great Irish Tavern/Restaurant for lunch, played some mini-golf and then set off for home. An excellent, impromptu day out.
Here's one for my Mum. I've already talked about the busy wildlife we have in the garden (Mr Woodchuck, the family of young rabbits in the beds round the swimming pool, cardinals and orieles and even a woodpecker sitting on our fence posts). We knew that deer used the garden as a throughway to the woods across the road, but early one morning as I sat watching TV, I caught a mother who had let her two young bucks stray far too close to the house. I managed to get a couple of shots of them, trying hard to work out what all these swimming pool toys were for.
